Founded in 1924, the New York Mandolin Orchestra (NYMO) has performed for over 80 years. It is said that NYMO is one of the oldest continuously performing Mandolin Orchestra in the country. In fact, today we are the only full-fledged mandolin orchestra in the City of New York.

Our primary goals are to increase interest in the mandolin and promote the mandolin family of instruments and mandolin music, with emphasis on the classical style. 

As one would expect from a mandolin orchestra, the majority of instruments are in the mandolin family: mandolin, mandola, mandocello, and mandobass. The concertina, flute and recorder beautifully compliment them and give our orchestra it's special sound.

Our group includes professional and amateur musicians who play a diverse musical repertoire ranging from bluegrass to classical music. We encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about the orchestra to come to a rehearsal and check us out. 

Rehearsals are every Tuesday from September to June. We meet at the Atria, 333 W. 86th Street, NYC, at 6:30pm. Rehearsal normally last 2 1/2 hours.   Please arrive early to tune up and bring your music stand.
